Wastewater Treatment Plant Expansion

Crested Butte, CO

Project Overview

Construction consisted of adding headworks and completing extensive rehabilitation of an active treatment plant. Per design, the new headworks building was located over the plant influent line and parking lot to minimize the footprint in this congested site, requiring well-coordinated bypasses and dewatering.

The existing plant was modified by strenuous demolition and conversion of existing tanks and basins to maximize the current layout while accommodating the treatment and new flow path. Work sequencing was a critical component in preconstruction services to maintain plant effluent.

RLW aided in the permitting process to ensure schedule deadlines could be met (building permit, right of way variance), completed as-built verification to ensure correct material and equipment were procured, guided early procurement strategies to shorten overall schedule, inspected existing conditions to develop cost savings options, and worked with operations team to develop by-pass plans to minimize impact to operations during preconstruction.

Equipment installation by RLW included headworks screen, clarifier, aeration, pumps, UV, WAS/RAS system, grit removal, grit concentrator, pumps, odor control, process pipe, and valves. RLW coordinated all associated electrical work.
