The Niwot Wastewater Treatment Facility is undergoing a significant upgrade as part of a progressive design-build (PDB) project led by Rice Lake West and design partner JVA Inc. This initiative, commissioned by the Niwot Sanitation District, aims to modernize the existing treatment plant by implementing advanced technologies and phasing out outdated systems, ensuring long-term efficiency and environmental compliance.
Study and design work began in 2022, and construction kicked off in May 2024. Over 90% of the concrete has been placed, with several above-grade buildings taking shape and new underground piping installed.
Through the Progressive Design-Build (PDB) approach, the team leveraged early procurement to reduce the project critical path duration. This alignment of long lead times with project milestones has resulted in key equipment arriving on-site, allowing select systems to be commissioned by late 2025, enabling a complete transition to the new treatment facility by mid-2026. These upgrades are essential to meet the new discharge permit requirements. Stay tuned for more updates as we help Niwot build a cleaner, more resilient future.
