Construction Internships

Rice Lake hires college interns to work with our project management, estimating, and operations teams. Interns work in the office or on construction project sites, supporting active water and wastewater treatment plant construction along with industrial and commercial projects. Interns leave with resume-worthy experience.

Applications for Summer 2027 internships are open now.

Positions run mid-May through mid-August and typically receive 40 hours per week.

As An Intern…

Your responsibilities depend on the project you are assigned to and what stage that project is in when you start.

You’ll learn about:

  • Construction safety standards and OSHA regulations
  • Water and wastewater treatment processes and equipment
  • Construction means and methods
  • Collaborative delivery methods

You’ll participate in:

  • Spec and plan review
  • Takeoff and estimating
  • Surveying
  • Planning and scheduling
  • Submittal review and assembly
  • Work site safety audits
  • Materials procurement
  • Production tracking
  • Problem solving
  • Issue resolution
  • Update meetings

You may gain experience in:

Agtek, Asta, AutoCAD, Blue Beam, Hard Dollar Estimating, Microsoft Office Suite, Navis Works, and Trimble. (No prior experience with these programs is required!)

We hire students studying civil engineering, environmental engineering, mechanical engineering, construction engineering technology, construction management, and specialties like Virtual Design and Construction, drafting, and IT degrees. Students at any year in their program are eligible.

Where You’ll Work

Rice Lake is headquartered in Deerwood, Minnesota and has offices and project locations throughout the Midwest and Rocky Mountains. Internship locations are assigned based on where our project teams need support. Your assigned location is confirmed with you as part of your offer, along with anything that applies to travel or housing for that assignment.
